National Training Case Studies
National Health Education Standards (NHES)
Client: American Cancer Society
Audience: State Departments of Education, including health education curriculum specialists, HIV coordinators, CSH coordinators and faculty at institutions of higher education
Task: Collaborate with a team of trainers to develop and facilitate a two-day training to familiarize participants with the National Health Education Standards (NHES). All trainers were involved with the revision of the Standards.
Result/Product: Two workshops, over 25 state agencies were trained on the Standards.
Health Education Curriculum Analysis Tool (HECAT)
Clients: Advocates for Youth, Idaho, Washington, Kentucky and Mississippi Departments of Education, Institutions of Higher Education in Oregon, Oregon Adolescent Sexuality Conference, ETR Associates
Audience: Variety of participants depending on client and location. Audiences included departments of education staff, school teachers and district curriculum directors, prevention specialists, school counselors and public health partners.
Task: Develop four hour and full day trainings to introduce audiences to the HECAT, provide facilitated practice on the tool, and establish a plan for using the tool.
For ETR Associates, Bogli Consulting used the HECAT to assess their K-12 HealthSmart Program to identify strengths and potential gaps in their comprehensive curricula.
Challenge: Adapt training events for diverse audiences.
Result/Product: Eight HECAT training events in 2009.
Conference Session Case Studies
Building Partnerships Between Schools and School-Based Health Centers
Clients: American School Health Association (ASHA) and National Assembly on School-Based Health Care (NASBHC)
Audience: School health educators, state directors in school health, public health agencies, school-based health center employees and partners
Task: Provide conference participants a workshop that shares the work being done in Oregon to increase partnerships between schools and school-based health centers. These sessions provided resources, skill-building, and action planning to increase understanding and collaboration.
Challenge: Bringing these two very different entities together around shared goals for child health, wellness and learning readiness. For school staff to understand the positive academic impact of school-based health centers and for school-based health staff to understand No Child Left Behind and other academic initiatives.
Result: Participants gained an understanding Oregon’s initiatives and developed concrete action plans.
